initially commissioned us to develop a cutaway illustration of their Ocelot™ device — an advanced lumivascular catheter that uses intra-vascular imaging to aid in crossing total occlusions. When we met with their product engineer and marketing team, however, I realized a cutaway illustration was not the best way to display its advantages. The key for this piece was not only to call attention to the features built into the Ocelot device, which a cutaway could certainly do, but also to familiarize the doctors with the benefits of using the device during a procedure. Showing the Ocelot within an artery would give them context for how the device functions during use and help Avinger show their product’s differentiation. This approach also helps lead into subsequent illustrations instructing doctors how to navigate the device through an occlusion using the Ocelot’s unique optics and marker system.
In the end, we successfully helped them articulate their distinct story. We succeeded because the team at Avinger kept an open mind to other possible solutions.
